
Men's Soccer Defeats Dayton 5-1 on Friday Night

Louisville, Ky. - The Louisville men's soccer team defeated Dayton 5-1 on Friday night in Cardinal Park. Louisville rolled offensively outshooting the Flyers 29-1. Colin Rolfe had a dominant performance scoring two goals while leading the Cards with seven shots and four on goal. Dylan Mares was second on the team with four shots, including three on goal.
Austin Berry struck first for the Cardinals in the seventh minute on a header that went wide. Colin Rolfe had another shot in the eighth minute but Dayton keeper Montrell Morgan came up with the save.
Dayton struck early on the night with a goal in the 11th minute. Greg Enstone split two defenders and slipped it past the keeper for the goal. Two minutes later Nick DeLeon hit a shot that went just wide. Will Vitalis hit a shot at the goal in the 16th minute but the keeper came up with the save.
Dylan Mares had another good look but the keeper made the save in the 17th minute. The Cardinals scored the equalizer in the 22nd minute when Vitalis took a cross from Mares at the top of the box and blasted it past the keeper. Louisville continued the offensive flurry when Mares had a shot on goal in the 28th minute.
Rolfe had a shot just go wide of the right post in the 29th minute. Senior Mark Knight had another shot for the Cardinals in the 33rd minute that was saved. Ryan Smith also had a shot on goal in the 36th minute and Buck Tufty had one in the 39th minute. Smith hit two shots high in the 42nd minute and the 44th minute. The half ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Cardinals continued their offensive pressure in the second half. Rolfe had a shot go just wide of the right post in the 49th minute. Rolfe would not give up, scoring in the 51st minute off a through ball from Nick DeLeon. Three minutes later Rolfe blasted a shot to the goal that bounced off the crossbar.
Knight had a header blocked by a defender in the 71st minute. In the 75th minute Buck Tufty slipped past the defender and scored on a one-on-one with the keeper. Knight's shot in the 79th minute went just wide.
Mares scored off a scramble in the box in the 82nd minute, beating his defender and punched the ball into the right corner of the net. Rolfe scored the final goal of the game when he blasted a shot from 30 yards outside the box.
Louisville finished the game with a 29-1 shot advantage and a 10-1 corner kick advantage. Morgan finished with eight saves for Dayton. The Cards finished the game with 15 shots on goal.
The Cardinals will wrap up the home spring season on Thursday, April 14 against Evansville at 7:00 p.m.
