LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville baseball team returns to BIG EAST Conference action with a three-game home series against Georgetown, which opens on Friday at 6 p.m., ET at Jim Patterson Stadium.
The Cardinals (22-18, 8-7 BIG EAST) and Hoyas (20-23, 2-13) will continue their series on Saturday at 1 p.m., while Sunday's series finale is set for 1 p.m. Admission is free for the entire weekend series.

Series Overview
Louisville and Georgetown have met 12 previous times with the Cardinals owning a 9-3 lead. This will be only the second series ever between the two programs with Louisville owning a 2-1 edge at Jim Patterson Stadium after earning a series win in 2009. Most recently, the Cardinals won two of three on the road against the Hoyas on May 7-9, 2010 in Bethesda, Md. Louisville opened the series with a 5-0 win, while Georgetown took game two with a 2-1 triumph in 10 innings. The Cardinals clinched the series victory with a 10-3 in the Sunday afternoon series finale.
Cardinals Tied for Fifth in BIG EAST with Four Weeks Left
The Louisville Cardinals earned their fourth BIG EAST series win of the season with a pair of wins over USF last weekend to move into a fifth-place tie in the league standings. At 8-7, the Cardinals are tied with Cincinnati and USF in league play, five games behind first-place Connecticut and three games out of second place. Louisville does own the tiebreaker with the Bearcats and Bulls thanks to series victories over both earlier this season.
Pitchers Lead the Way for Louisville
Through 40 games, the Louisville pitching staff has led the way with six shutout wins and an ERA of 3.06. The Cardinals have 272 strikeouts and only 130 walks in 353.1 innings. The opening weekend included a stretch of 23.2 consecutive shutout innings and 25.2 straight innings without an earned run and included the Cardinals' first back-to-back shutouts since 2007. U of L followed that early stretch with a streak of 22.0 straight scoreless innings and 24 straight innings without an earned run to end the series at Pepperdine. Overall, the Louisville pitching staff has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 22 games this season.

About Louisville Head Coach Dan McDonnell
In his fifth season as the Cardinals' head coach, Dan McDonnell is 207-95 for a .685 winning percentage. In his first four seasons, he led Louisville to impressive heights, including its first ever College World Series appearance in 2007, four consecutive 40-win seasons, a school record 50 wins in 2010 and a school record four straight NCAA Championship appearances. Louisville has also hosted NCAA post-season games in three of the last four seasons.
About Georgetown
Georgetown enters the series at 20-23 overall and 2-13 in BIG EAST Conference action. Most recently, the Hoyas earned a 17-2 win over Navy on Wednesday. GU is led by Pete Wilk, who is 244-443 in his 12th season as head coach of the Hoyas. Last year, Georgetown was 24-31 overall, including a 5-22 league record to finish 12th in the BIG EAST.
