LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Despite the completion of the Louisville baseball team's fall season three weeks ago, the work inside Jim Patterson Stadium has not ended as the Cardinals continue to prepare for the 2012 season with off-season workouts and drills.
With sunny skies and temperatures in the low 70's, the Louisville position players spent Monday hitting on the field at Jim Patterson Stadium and working through defensive drills in their respective position groups while the Cardinal pitchers continued their off-season throwing schedules. Louisville coaches also use the off-season to emphasize the fitness level of the team with a demanding strength and conditioning program.
Monday was also photo and video day for the Cardinals. While not working on the field or in the hitting cages, the Louisville players and coaches met with U of L marketing and media relations staff members recording videos and being photographed in preparation for the 2012 season. Many of the video and photo elements fans will see at Jim Patterson Stadium and around the city of Louisville to promote the Cardinals' baseball program in the spring were completed on a busy Monday afternoon.
Louisville is scheduled to open the 2012 season at the Big Ten/BIG EAST Challenge on Feb. 17-19 in Clearwater, Fla., while the home slate at Jim Patterson Stadium is set to begin with a mid-week game against Eastern Kentucky on Feb. 22.
