Louisville, Ky. - With the commencement of school we begin our normal routine of just one-a-day practices. Tuesday night we faced off against Saint Louis in our second preseason match. After 90 minutes of play we ended in a scoreless draw. I thought we played much better in this game than we did in our first. We moved the ball well and put Saint Louis under a lot of pressure, we just couldn't find the back of the net.
This past Saturday we had our last preseason game in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. On this trip we had a couple of team activities. The freshmen were required to sing the bus a song over the PA system in the front of the bus. They chose Afternoon Delight followed by an embarrassing freestyle attempt by Squid (Alex Stopa), who was booed off camera.
Later that night we organized the showcase of talent invitational, which required all the freshmen to participate and any other players if they wanted to. The show saw several impressions of coaches and fellow players. Once again Squid was booed off camera for an attempted song/dance to a Taylor Swift song.
The following day we played Penn State. We lost the game 2-1 in which we had the better part of play. The two soft goals given up were too much for us to overcome. Ryan Smith tallied our only goal, scoring just before halftime. This was a very productive preseason and leaves us with a good starting point to build on as we begin the season this Friday away at Duke University.
As I end this week's blog, I would like to take the time of calling out everyone who has poked fun at the title and/or picture chosen for my blog. I will not even honor your comments with a response and if there are any further problems you can take it up with my enforcer Luis Pacheco-Marin. Don't let his small stature fool you, he fights dirty.
