LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Following four wins last week, the Louisville baseball team moved up one position to No. 6 in the latest Rivals.com Top 25 to match the highest ranking in school history.
The No. 6 ranking matches the Cardinals' final 2007 national ranking by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll following the College World Series appearance that season. With a 24-3 record overall, Louisville has been ranked in the top 12 throughout the 2010 season.
Along with the Rivals.com ranking, the Cardinals are also ranked seventh this week in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, seventh in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll, seventh in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Poll, ninth in the Baseball America Top 25 and ninth in the Ping! Baseball Top 30.
Clark Named Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week, BIG EAST Player of the Week
Senior first baseman Andrew Clark was among five players named a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and was named BIG EAST Conference Player of the Week on Monday. In Louisville's four wins on March 30-April 3, Clark hit .556 (10-for-18) with four home runs, 10 RBI, nine runs scored and a slugging percentage of 1.333.
The New Palestine, Ind., native started the week in style with a game-winning two-run homer off Indiana ace lefty Drew Leininger with two outs in the ninth inning to lift the Cardinals to a 5-4 win over the Hoosiers. The home run also ended a stretch of 28.2 consecutive scoreless innings for Leininger, the Hoosiers' Friday night starter who entered the game with an ERA of just 0.79. In Thursday's series-opening win over Villanova, Clark finished 5-for-5 with two home runs, including his third career grand slam, and five RBI overall.
In his seven games since returning from a stress fracture in his rib cage, Clark is hitting .444 with four home runs, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored. For the season, he his hitting .408 with six home runs, 25 RBI and 17 runs scored in his 14 games.
Tuesday's Louisville-Kentucky Game to be Televised Locally, Statewide
Louisville's mid-week road game at rival Kentucky on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET, will be televised by the Big Blue Sports Network with Dick Gabriel (play-by-play), Doug Flynn (color analyst) and Ryan Lemond (sideline reporter) calling the action. The broadcast from Cliff Hagan Stadium will be available live on WMYO-TV in Louisville, CWKYT in Central Kentucky and FSN South in the state of Kentucky.
Cardinals Will Open Eight-Game Road Swing on Tuesday at UK
With Tuesday's game at Kentucky, the Louisville Cardinals will open an eight-game road swing, the longest stretch of consecutive road games of the 2010 season. Following Tuesday's game, Louisville will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., for a three-game BIG EAST series against the Panthers on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. After a mid-week road game at top 25 foe Western Kentucky on April 14, the Cardinals will close the road stretch in Morgantown, W.V., with three a three-game series against West Virginia on April 16-18.
