
Cardinals Fall 2-1 to Indiana in Spring Opener

Bloomington, Ind. - The Cardinals fell to Indiana 2-1 in the spring season opener at Armstrong Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Hoosiers scored to second half goals to defeat the Cardinals.
Indiana had an opportunity 20 minutes into the match as Will Bruin headed a shot off the crossbar at 10:25, then put another header, this time off the right post, back into play at 20:46. With the game still scoreless, it was the Cardinals that took a 1-0 lead as Gerardo Chavez crossed a ball into Buck Tufty, who was waiting in front of the net and sent home a low shot for the score at 33:30. The Cardinals held a 6-3 lead in shot attempts at the break, while the Hoosiers held a 4-2 advantage in corner kick.
Bruin finally broke through for his first goal of the spring season at 54:23 off an assist from Daniel Kelly. Tolen broke the deadlock at 84:35 after being on the receiving end of a thru ball from Bruin.
Louisville finished the match with a 13-9 shot advantage and an 8-7 corner kick advantage. Cardinal keeper David Stockum finished with two saves. The Hoosiers' Luis Soffner finished with four saves on the day.
The Cardinals will continue spring play on Saturday, April 3 against Michigan in Cardinal Park at 2:00 p.m.
