
Dylan Mares Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week

Louisville, Ky. - Louisville freshman Dylan Mares was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week the conference office announced on Monday. Mares helped the Cardinals remain undefeated after scoring goals against Kentucky and No. 18 St. John's last week.
Mares scored the game-winner against Kentucky, when a shot from Nick DeLeon bounced off the crossbar and in the scramble Mares rebounded the ball blasting it into the back of the net past the Kentucky goalkeeper. Against St. John's, Mares dribbled to the top of the box, launching a shot that slipped past the goalkeeper putting Louisville up 1-0 in the 29th minute. The freshman finished the week with two goals to lead the team with four points. He has scored a goal in three consecutive matches for the Cardinals and currently leads the team in scoring with five goals and one assist for 11 points.
Highest Rankings
The Louisville Cardinals received their highest rankings in school history on Monday. The Cardinals were ranked No. 1 by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 3 by College Soccer News. The Cardinals previous top ranking was No. 5 during the 2009 season after starting the season with a 5-0-1 record. Louisville is off to its best start in school history at 7-0-2 and while setting a new unbeaten record as well.
