
Volleyball to face Georgetown and South Florida

University of Louisville volleyball will play host to BIG EAST foe Georgetown on Friday Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. and against South Florida on Sunday Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. with both matches in Cardinal Arena. Sunday's game will be televised live on WHAS-11 TV.
Friday's game is part of the Cards canned food drive. Fans will receive a raffle ticket for each canned item they bring with a chance to win Louisville Athletics gift packages. On Sunday, in awareness of domestic violence, the Muhammad Ali Center and Muhammad Ali's Scholars Gwen Rucker and Amanda Simmons have declared the USF game a Red Out.
The Cards are on a midseason streak,winning their last six matches including a victory over #21 Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday. The team is led by reigning BIG EAST Player of the Week sophomore outside hitter Lola Arslanbekova. In her last game on Wednesday against Lipscomb University, Arslanbekova recorded 14 kills in the 3-0 sweep of the Lady Bisons. U of L has also been solid on defense with middle blockers Amanda Simmons and Gwen Rucker stepping up big each with four blocks in their last game. Simmons leads the BIG EAST in blocks.
The Hoyas come in 0-5 against the Cards looking to get back to even in BIG EAST play with a record of (13-10, 3-4). The Hoyas are coming off a tough 3-2 loss to USF. Sophomore middle blocker Lindsay Wise notched 11 kills, hitting .600 with seven total blocks in the match. Wise is first in the BIG EAST with 117 total blocks and second in blocks per set with 1.27. Senior outside hitter Samantha Trauth is third in the BIG EAST in total service aces with a total of 39 on the season.
Long-time rival USF visits Cardinal Arena and are seeking to upset the current conference leader. The Bulls have lost six out of seven to the Cards. The Bulls won the last meeting in 2009 in a 3-0 sweep at home in Tampa. The Bulls are led by senior Allie Boaz, who was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. Boaz collected 21 kills, hitting .486, while adding three blocks in the comeback effort against Georgetown last weekend. The senior leads the team with 177 kills on the year, and has added 23 digs and 30 total blocks from her outside hitter position. Junior Janice Rivera is sixth in the BIG EAST with average digs per game. She has 309 digs on the season.
