Louisville, Ky. - We are off to a 2-0 start!
We played at the UK Tournament this weekend against Bowling Green and IUPUI. We played Bowling Green on Friday night, winning 3-0. It was a rough start not being able to score in the first half and outshooting the Falcons 10-5. Wasting no time, Colin Rolfe turns a defender at the top of the box and finishes far post in the first minute of the second half, celebrating with our teammates shining his shoes. Shortly after the first goal Austin Berry, representing our strong attacking defense, scored a diving header off a corner. To finish the game, I scored a header off a rebound to secure the win.
On Sunday, we played IUPUI for our last game of the tournament. We were scoreless again until the second half. Berry gaining more points on the weekend gave me a pass from midfield to where I turned and took a few touches and ripped a left foot rocket far post. I turned with a scream of celebration and joined Berry and the rest of the team in excitement. In the 80th minute, once again our defense scores this time by Phil Edginton scoring his first goal of the year assisted by Brent Rosendall.
Not to leave my goalkeeper Andre Boudreaux hanging, he played amazing and had two fascinating saves that could have been on ESPN top 10. One of the saves was at a crucial time in the Bowling Green game where he made a full out stretch diving upper 90 save out for a corner kick. After the save, a coach on the bench was thrilled and proud that he jumped out of his seat and threw a water bottle on the ground splashing the bench.
I would like to congratulate four players on our team for receiving all-tournament team, Othaniel Yanez, Phil Edginton, Austin Berry, and Andre Boudreaux. For these teammates played outstanding this weekend and were a huge part of our success.
This upcoming weekend we are hosting the Courtyard by Marriott East Cardinal Classic. We play SIU Edwardsville as our home opener on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Then on Sunday we host UIC at 5:00 p.m. the game will air live on Fox Soccer Channel. Come support your Cardinals!!
