Louisville, Ky. - Senior defender Phil Edginton was named BIG EAST Defender of the Week after the Cardinals opened BIG EAST play with shutouts over West Virginia and Pittsburgh.
The Cardinals topped West Virginia 2-0 on Sept. 18 and earned a 5-0 win over Pittsburgh two-days later. The center back anchored a defense that collected their fourth and fifth shutouts of the season. Edginton helped to hold the Mountaineers to zero shots on goal in the first half, and a total of three for the game. Pittsburgh did not get a shot on goal off.
This is Edginton's second career defensive player of the week honor, as he earned the award on Oct. 15, 2007.
