Louisville, Ky. - After a great weekend we our on top of the Big East with a 2-0 record. It was a Friday night game under lights with a crowd attendance above 2,000 and the atmosphere was excellent. Our first goal came from English mate Mark Knight crossed by me who hit a shot on top of the box to gain the lead in the first half. In the 65th minute freshman Paolo DelPiccolo gave a great pass on a counter attack to send Gerry Chavez on a breakaway for the second goal. Not only did we beat West Virginia 2-0 we were able to see Nappy Roots at the pep rally after the game.
Coming into our game against Pittsburgh on Sunday was tough. It was our second game, midday on a Sunday, raining weather and very little attendance. It is our job as a team to create the atmosphere we want our games to look like and how our intensity will overcome our obstacles. On Sunday, we proved that we are team that can create our own atmosphere and are ready to play anytime, anywhere. Starting off scoring in 19th minute was Paolo DelPiccolo scored a rebound off my shot. A few minutes later OT Yanez dribbled from half field beating 3 or 4 guys to make a superb goal. Then right before half, Kenny Walker made a hard cross into the box that was headed by the other team into the net for a three-goal lead. In the second half, freshmen Ryan Smith received his first assist of his career by playing a great cross to me on a diving header. To end the game Brent Rosendall finished a breakaway passed by Luis Pacheco.
Outside of soccer things have been going great. School is school and I am really looking forward to this weekend. We play at Notre Dame and I have a lot of relatives coming since it is not a far drive for the Michiganders. It will be a really good game with a lot of Louisville supporters.
Since the pro football season has started the Detroit Lions are off to a great start... NOT! We are 0-2 and even though it is a long season we could win at least one game, maybe, I am keeping the fingers crossed.
I'd like to give a shout out to the field hockey team for a great game on Sunday, especially Simone Attles who would like to congratulate her team on the overtime victory against Michigan! Way to go.
Our next two games are away at Notre Dame on Friday and Marquette on Sunday. If you would like to follow up on our progress check out our website under gametracker.
Until the next Kicking it with Freddie, "Enjoy life, and do what you love"
