Louisville, Ky. - We had our Louisville Tournament this weekend and came out with one win and a tie. Our first game was on Friday was against SIU Edwardsville and we won 2-0. The first goal was a set piece served by Paolo Del Piccolo and scored by Colin Rolfe. The second goal came at the end of the game to secure the win by a pass by me for Mark Knight to finish on a break away.
On Sunday, a crowd of 2,600 fans attended our game against UIC. Fox Soccer Channel aired our game on national television so it was a great experience and an amazing atmosphere to play in. It was hard to get by the UIC packed defense but Colin Rolfe scored his second goal of the weekend in the second half. Unfortunately, UIC responded 12 minutes later from a shot far out. Remaining scoreless for the full 90 we went into overtime. We had some chances when an Austin Berry header was cleared off the line and Gerry Chavez's shot hit the post in the 115th minute.
I would like to congratulate three players on our team for receiving all-tournament team honors, Othaniel Yanez, Phil Edginton, and Colin Rolfe. For these teammates played outstanding this weekend and were a huge part of our success.
Overall it was a good weekend playing two games in three days and we look forward to our next opponent. This upcoming weekend we start Big East play against West Virginia Friday at 6:30 p.m. and Pittsburg at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. We appreciate all your support and hope you come and support your Cardinals this weekend!
