Louisville, Ky. - What a great start to preseason, UNDEFEATED!
We played our first game on August 22 in Nashville, Tenn. aginst Lipscomb. The temperature was around mid 70's and cloudy skies for a beautiful day for soccer. The match was scoreless until the second half when great pressure came from Gerry Chavez and stole the ball in the corner then gave a cross to Brent Rosendall for the tap in header. Our new English mate, Mark Knight scored his first goal debut with a nice scissor kick on top of the box. We came out with a victory winning 2-1.
Cardinal Park is known as "our house" so we must protect it. Every team knows that when they play us at home it's going to be a battle. It definitely showed against Bradley on August 25th. With plenty of chances throughout the game, freshmen Paolo Del Piccolo scored his first goal of his career in the 89th minute to win the game. Not only was it great to win but it was special for me because a few teammates that play for Bradley. I played with them over the summer and it was fun to play against them.
Our last preseason game was against Ohio State in Fort Wayne, Indiana on Friday. My two Michigan boys scored the two goals against the Buckeyes. Colin Rolfe hit a left foot bomb from 30 yards out off the post and Luis Pacheco scored his first goal of his career to give us a 2-2 tie. Due to a lot of rain and a torn up field from the game before, our clean white jerseys were dirty and messy once the final whistle blew.
We start the regular season this weekend at the UK Tournament. We play Bowling Green on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and IUPUI on Sunday at Noon.
Everyone, if you see Matt Beverin today give him a huge hug and a kiss (optional, but greatly appreciated) because he turned 19!! Happy birthday Bev!
Until the next Kicking it with Freddie, "Go big or die trying."
