Louisville, Ky. - Where did the summer go? Summer school and workouts filled up most of my time. But I am well prepared for what is next, the season! Most of the guys stayed at school for the summer so there is a lot of hype building around this team and how far we can go. National Champs `09.
Last week we started with voluntary practice which is called captain's practice. Getting at it right away, we started Monday with two-a-day practices. In the morning we worked on technical stuff like touching the ball and shooting. With an unpleasant surprise, our second session came to end with a downpour of rain 10 minutes into practice. Leaving the equipment on field with a nice smell the next morning.
On Tuesday and Wednesday we played both mornings with a lot of possession and ball work then at night we had a full scrimmage. In between practices we met at Beef O'Bradys on Wednesday to watch the USA vs. Mexico national soccer game.
All of the Americans on the team were cheering for the USA, excluding Luis Pacheco. Pacheco was supporting his home country Mexico by wearing an ugly green jersey. We all gave him a hard time by screaming in his face when the USA team scored 15 minutes in the game. But by the end of the game, Luis's team came out on top and beat the Americans 2-1.
We finished off the week with our last two-a-days on Thursday Friday. We had a little fun playing soccer tennis on the tennis courts. We also had a nice team dinner at Coach Lolla's house on Sunday night. They had delicious Q'doba for dinner. We also played corn hole and kickball. The dinner ended the week with a positive and successful first week of the season.
Until next time, Go Cards!
