Louisville, Ky. - We played three straight BIG EAST road games and faired pretty well. We played Notre Dame and lost 4-0. We didn't play that bad, through out the game we created some chances and made some nice plays. When we made mistakes Notre Dame punished us and we have learned some lessons from the game.
We traveled to Marquette for a match on Sunday and it went well. We went up in the first 10 minutes when I scored of a penalty kick. Then Mark Knight scored right before the half to give us a two-goal lead. Unfortunately, we gave up to many fouls in the second half and the eagles capitalized on two of them. The last goal was scored in the 87th minute. We then went into overtime for two periods scoreless. Our best chance came at the end of the second period with five seconds left, Mark hit the ball wide of the net.
I did have fun on Friday night seeing my family members. Although we lost, I had about 20 people come to see the game and they still enjoyed seeing me play. My Detroit Lions are now 1-3! I can't believe it, I look forward to seeing them play again. The team looks forward to learning from our mistakes and continues to improve and become better.
We went to Chicago this weekend and played DePaul. This was one of the better trips. The team rode down on a new bus that had leather chairs, tables, and two plasma screen TVs. The best part about it is that it was set up in a way that the back TV could be set to a different channel then the front one. So if you wanted to sleep, you went to the front and if you wanted to watch TV or a movie sat in the back. I was in the back for the majority of the trip.
But with the new bus came some problems. It is bigger than the buses we used before so when wanted to go under a bridge in Chicago, we had to take a different route to get the field. Which indeed happened and we circled downtown Chicago for at least a half hour arriving just 40 minutes before game time. That was not a problem for us, we came out with intensity and determination to show what kind of team the Cardinals are and scored four goals in the first 25 minutes.
The first goal came off of goalkeeper Andre Boudreaux who punted it three quarters of the field for Mark Knight to head the ball through to Colin Rolfe who made a superb finish. Shortly after, DePaul's defense tried to clear the ball in the box which ended up on Knight's head for a finish three yards out. The third goal came from a great sequence of complete passing in the attacking third. Rolfe dribbled the ball in the box taking a shot that was saved and then Knight finished the rebound. Paolo DelPiccolo scored his second goal by a cross from Gerry Chavez 18 yards outs. Getting his first goal of his career Kenney Walker had a nice one two with Chavez and Walker finished a shot off the post and in. Finally, Buck Tufty scored the last goal with a rocket 25 yards out far post with minutes remaining.
I would like to congratulate my teammate Mark Knight for being named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week. He has been a nice addition to our team.
Our next opponent is No. 3 USF home tonight at 7:00 p.m.. Then we play Saturday at 7:00 as well against Syracuse. So if you not going to the football game, come support us!!
