Daphne Parker, a recent addition to the Louisville women's golf team, won the Utah State Amateur for the second consecutive year. Parker took her second title in dramatic fashion winning on a three-hole playoff.
Parker held a six shot lead going into the final round. But with three holes remaining, the lead was down to three shots over three-time champion Lachelle Poffenberger. With two holes left, it was two. On the 18th tee, it was one. Parker went bogey on the final hole and was headed into a sudden-death playoff with Poffenberger.
"I just couldn't focus at all," Parker told the Desert News. "But I have to hand it to her. She played a great game. She played amazing. She just fought hard and never backed down."
After putting so well the first two rounds, Parker three-putted on the 16th hole from about eight feet. Then she three-putted on the 17th hole from about 45 feet. She only needed to two-putt from off the back fringe on the 18th to win, but she pounded her first putt about 15 feet past and missed the one coming back to force the playoff.
Parker finally settled her putter down during the playoff. She made par on the first two holes and two-putted for par on the third hole. Poffenberger went bogey on the third hole to give Parker the win.
"It's kind of surreal," Parker told the Desert New after winning a second time. "Because I really didn't have my best game today."
