University of Louisville infielder Chris Dominguez has been named a starter in the prestigious Cape Cod League All-Star game Saturday and fellow Cardinal Phil Wunderlich has been selected to play in the Central Illinois Collegiate League All-Star game on Monday.
Dominguez, who earlier in the season became just the second player in Cape Cod League history to belt three home runs in one game, is batting .259 with a league-leading eight home runs and is fourth in the Cape with 22 RBI. He was the 2008 BIG EAST Co-Player of the Year and BIG EAST Tournament MVP last spring.
Wunderlich is batting .288 with nine doubles, placing him fourth in the league, and a team-best 17 RBI for the DuPage Dragons in 32 games. He is also fifth in the CICL in hits and total bases.
Cardinal teammate Gabriel Shaw recently played in the Northwoods League All Star game after a solid first half of the summer season with the Madison Mallards.
Shaw worked two-thirds of an inning for the victorious South squad in the All-Star game and is 2-0 with a 2.90 ERA in six starts, striking out 22 in 31.0 innings and limiting batters to a .246 average this summer.
There are 40 summer wood bat leagues that NCAA athletes compete for during the off-season. They do not effect eligibility at the collegiate level.
