Last weekend, the University of Louisville beat Ohio University in first 25-10, 25-14 and then beat Dayton in second match 25-19, 25-17 in spring competition last weekend in Dayton.
"We played great as a team," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin. "We have been focusing on giving 100 percent effort and it paid off. I am very pleased with the results. I told them we can lose a game or we can have a bad game but we cannot have a bad attitude and we must fight to the end."
Yelin was pleased with libero Lindsey Mango, who played well in serve receive and provided solid defense. Defensive specialist Kristie Wetterer was effective and scored points off her serve. Justine Landi blocked well and played good defense. Jana Matiasovska helped played a formidable middlethe middle and on offense was very solid.
"We are dominating at the net," said Yelin. "I am very pleased with everyone's attitude. I liked what I saw from our redshirt Anastasia Artemeva. I think her teammates were also very happy to see how big a help she will be to us in the future."
Tatyana Kolesnikova, last year's BIG EAST preseason Player of the Year, had a good offensive day and showed improvement in her blocking. Lecia Brown, last year's national leader in blocking showed diversity in her offensive game with some offspeed shots and placement.
Assistant coach Craig Bere said, "Defensively we played well and much like we've been practicing throughout the spring, with good intensity, increased range and mobility, touching balls we haven't in the past. Blocking wasn't our main focus but we're pleased with the performance and focus dedicated by the players."
Yelin commented that it was a good day out against two quality teams. We were able to see improvements in the areas of concentration but hope to continue building on this as we prepare for a high level tournament this coming weekend in Aurora, Ill.
