Men's Tennis Defeats UT-Martin 7-0

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville men's shut out visiting UT-Martin 7-0 to complete a doubleheader sweep after beating Southern Illinois 7-0 Wednesday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
"I was pleased with tonight's result," said U of L coach Rex Ecarma. "Robert Rotaru, our `Player of the Match' today, was extremely aggressive and dismantled all of his opponents in today's doubleheader. He is playing as well as I've ever seen him play. Simon Childs played significantly sharper than last week and Alejandro Calligari minimized his unforced errors tonight. We want to take this momentum and confidence on the road to Maryland."
The Cards swept the doubles matches to take the first point. The 23rd ranked freshman team of Austen Childs and Simon Childs defeated Stephan Bruwer and Andrey Yesipov 8-4 at the No. 1 spot. Sophomore David Simon and junior Robert Rotaru topped Alfredo Krywacz 8-3 at the No.2 seed while freshman Viktor Maksimcuk and senior Pablo Camacho picked up an 8-5 win over Petr Markov and Stewart McRae at the three-spot.
For the second time today, the Cards also swept the singles points in straight sets. Austen Childs, ranked 40th in the nation in singles, beat Bruwer 6-3, 6-2 at the top seed. David Simon topped Yesipov 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2. Playing at the three-spot, Simon Childs edged Krywacz 7-5, 6-4. Rotaru defeated Slabbert 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4. Calligari cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Markov at the No.5 slot. Sophomore Tim Barnoud closed the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win over McRae at No. 6.
U of L (10-2) will travel to College Park, Md., to take on Pennsylvania on March 1 at 1 p.m. and Maryland on March 2 at 11 a.m.
