
Cardinal Nine to Scrimmage Saturday

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville baseball team, coming off of its first trip to the College World Series in Omaha, will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Jim Patterson Stadium.
The full-length scrimmage will be free and open to the public.
Fans that are attending the Cardinal football game are encouraged to stop by and see the Cardinal Nine as they are about a quarter of the way through fall drills. The team will take infield and batting practice prior to the first pitch of the scrimmage at 3:30.
Louisville, who finished the season with a school record 47 wins and a top ten ranking under National Coach of the Year Dan McDonnell, returns 17 players from the CWS team.
Rivals.com, which had the Cardinals ranked 7th to end the '07 season, selected the Cards as one of 25 teams to watch in a pre-fall poll.
Rivals also selected the top 10 return players in college baseball by class and Zack Pitts, the 2007 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year, was named the 10th best senior in college baseball. Fellow hurler Justin Marks, BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, was tabbed as the #7 sophomore in the country.
The two combined to log over 225 innings, a 19-5 record and a combined ERA of 2.59. As a pitching staff under Pitching Coach Roger Williams, the team combined for a 3.14 ERA, ranking 5th in the nation. The Cards ranked in the top 50 in nine major team categories in 2007.
