Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's golf team earned an at-large bid to the 2007 NCAA Regional Championship to be held in Baton Rouge, La., May 10-12 at the University Club Golf Course. The Cardinals earned the No. 13 seed in the East Region. The bid is the second appearance for the Cardinals since the program was started in 2000.
Louisville won their second consecutive BIG EAST Championship in dramatic fashion last Tuesday at the par 72, 6,067-yard Oxmoor Country Club. The Cardinals entered the final day three back from leader Notre Dame. By the time the Louisville came off the front nine, the Cards had made up the three strokes to pull even with Notre Dame. The back nine went back and forth until the final hole where both teams were tied, forcing a sudden death playoff. The five player squads headed to the par-four ninth hole for the playoff. The Irish finished the hole one over par and then Adrienne White sank a putt for par and the Cardinal win.
Sophomore Cindy LaCrosse took medalist honors after setting a new championship record with a score of 213, three under par. White finished one under par with a score of 215 for the runner-up finish. LaCrosse, White and Amanda Henry all earned All-BIG EAST honors for finishing in the Top 10 of the championship.
Under the direction of Kelly Rothberg, the Cardinals finished Top Five in nine of the 11 tournaments, making this season the best in school history. The Cardinals are currently ranked 32nd by Golfstat and 33rd by Golf Week.
