Louisville, Ky. - The Louisville men's soccer finished in a 1-1 tie with No. 22 Ohio State on Wednesday evening in Cardinal Park. The Cardinals improve to 10-5-2 on the season while the Buckeyes improve to 10-3-4 for the year.
"I thought it was another very good result against a ranked team," said head coach Ken Lolla. "I was proud of the way our guys came back from being a goal down. I thought we created a lot of chances to win but unfortunately we weren't able to finish. I thought it was a very good senior night for our guys with a good result."
The Buckeyes got on the board in the 14th minute when Xavier Balc shot the ball from 18 yards out to find the back of the net just getting past Cardinal keeper David Simolike. The Cardinals were able to rebound and score the equalizer in the 35th minute. Freddie Braun crossed the ball to Marco Terminesi who was 12 yards out for a straight shot to the net.
The second half was a pretty equal game. The Buckeyes offense had momentum at the beginning of the half while the Cardinals had most of their chances late in the half. Simolike finished the half with four saves while Ohio State's Casey Latchem finished with one.
Louisville's best opportunity to score the game-winner came in the first overtime period. Frank Jonke had an shot in the 96th minute and then Aaron Clapham came close in the 99th minute but Latchem came up with two saves.
Ohio State finished the game with a 14-11 shot advantage. Simolike finished with five saves while Latchem finished with three saves.
Louisville will wrap up the regular season Saturday, Nov. 3 at Villanova at 1:00 p.m.
