Cincinnati, Ohio - The Louisville (3-6-1, 2-4-0) men's soccer team fell 3-0 to Cincinnati (7-3-1, 4-2-0) Wednesday evening at Gettler Stadium. The Cardinals had chances with four shots on goal but were unable to convert them into a score.
The Cardinals opened the match with some offensive pressure, earning a pair of corner kicks in the first five minutes, but were unable to convert on either corner. In the 40th minute, Cincinnati's Noah Davidson put home the game-winner, taking a feed from Omar Cummings off Louisville keeper David Simolike and into the net. Cincinnati took the 1-0 lead into the half and held an 11-4 advantage in shots.
The Bearcats continued to put pressure on the Cardinal defense in the early going of the second half. In the 70th minute, Mike Dwyer added an insurance goal for the Bearcats. Cummings sent a perfect cross into the box from the left side. Dwyer was defended well, but was able to side volley a right-footed blast past Simolike.
The Cardinals started to apply the offensive pressure, trying to get back into the match. But the Bearcats added to their lead in the 73rd minute when Sam Miller found the back of the net. Cincinnati finished the match with a 22-9 shot advantage, while corner kicks were even at five apiece. Simolike finished the match with five saves while Cincinnati's Mike Vessels finished with four saves.
Louisville will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 1 as they travel to Syracuse for a 1:00 p.m. match with the Orange.
