Syracuse, NY - The Louisville (4-6-1, 3-4-0) men's soccer team defeated Syracuse 4-0 Sunday afternoon at SU Soccer Stadium. Junior David Guzman finished with a goal and two assists while sophomore Gerard Voutier scored his first goal of the season.
"I thought it was a very good complete game," said head coach Ken Lolla. "We played solid on both ends of the field. It was a good team win for us."
The Cardinals got on the board early when junior Anthony Celebre headed the ball into the net off a cross from Guzman for the game-winner. Guzman then added an insurance goal in the 35th minute. The Cards led 2-0 at the end of the half.
In the second half Voutier scored his first goal of the season in the 75th minute off an assist from Guzman. Twelve minutes later Voutier struck again off a cross from Frank Jonke to put the match out of reach.
Syracuse outshot the Cardinals 20-11 and finished with nine corners to the Cards' four. Cardinal keeper Trae Manny, making his first start of the season, finished the game with six saves. Robert Cavacchia finished with three saves for Syracuse.
Louisville will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 5 as they travel to Bloomington, Ind. for a 7:00 p.m. match with the Indiana Hoosiers.
