Madison, Wis. - The University of Louisville women's golf team finished fifth in the Badger Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin. The weather conditions hampered play with driving winds gusting at 20 mph, temperatures in the 50's and rain continuously. The Cardinals shot a 312 on the final day to finish with a score of 938. Indiana won the tournament with a score of 922 while host Wisconsin finished with a score of 932. Oklahoma and Nebraska tied for third with a score of 934.
"It was a tough day because the weather was awful again," said head coach Kelly Meyers Rothberg. "It took us a while to get rolling at the beginning and then lost strokes on the last six holes because of the weather. I am excited about the potential of this team. They played really hard despite the conditions."
Senior Adrienne White fought all day to keep the lead. On the final hole, White's second shot ended up in the sand and she was unable to do anything with the shot and bogeyed the final hole, forcing a playoff for the title. On the first playoff hole Wisconsin's Katie Elliot chipped in from 25 yards for birdie, winning the playoff. White carded a 78 on the final round to finish with a score of 225.
Junior Jenny Calkins finished tied for 23rd with a score of 237. Sophomore Cindy LaCrosse finished tied at 27th with a score of 239. Senior Cristina Gonzalez and sophomore Amanda Henry finished tied at 40th with a score of 243.
Competing as an individual, freshman Chrissy Puchuta finished tied for 47th with a score of 247. Also competing as individuals, freshman Camille Williams finished tied at 54th while Danielle Kom finished 66th.
