The University of Louisville volleyball team, coming off 2005's 31-3 Sweet Sixteen season, is ranked No. 15 in the nation for its recruiting class by prepvolleyball.com.
The poll, which is made up of a network of college coaches, assesses the classes not just based on immediate impact but also based on a predicted cumulative impact on a school's program for the next four years. The classes only consist of players making their initial appearance in a four-year program. Transfers, junior college players and foreign players do not figure the rankings.
"This is an honor to be recognized by our peers for the work we put into recruiting," said U of L head coach Leonid Yelin. "We are very excited by the potential of this class."
Prepvolleyball.com's John Tawa comments, "The Cardinals, who graduated their top two hitters and one of their two setters, have filled many of their needs with this class. Sam Dabbs, the highest-ranked recruit in the school's history, is a headliner. The crafty setter could fill Jennifer Craven's spot in the 6-2 or take the reins all by herself. At 6-0, she puts up a huge roof and has a jump serve that scores. Justine Landi, one of two Floridians headed to Louisville, isn't as well known as Dabbs, but is a big time player with the versatility to play on the right side or even set. The plan is to start her on the right but donm't be surprised if she is attacking in six rotatons by midseason. Lecia Brown makes up for her lack of height with tremendous speed, lateral quickness and leaping ability. She may need a little time to adjust to the higher level of play, but could evolve into a feared middle once her experience catches up to her athleticism."
