
Derek Jeter To Headline Cardinal Leadoff Dinner

LOUISVILLE, KY - Four-time World Series champion Derek Jeter is headlining the 2006 University of Louisville Baseball Leadoff Dinner on Friday, February 10 at 7:30 p.m. in the Brown and Williamson Club of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Jeter will be joined by former New York Yankee teammate Tino Martinez.
A limited number of tickets are available and can be purcheased for $50 apiece,by calling (502)852-1974. The deadline for ticket sales is 11:00 AM the morning of the event. There will be no walk-up sales at the event.
The banquet will also feature the official unveiling of the "Diamond Dolls", introduction of the 2006 team and a new mascot exclusive to baseball.
The annual dinner is the primary fund-raising event for the U of L baseball team, and has featured Don Mattingly, Alex Rodriguez, Scott Rolen, Tommy Lasorda and Chris Burke among others in the past.
The Cardinal Nine will open the 2006 season in Florida on February 15 with four games in five days, beginning with a visit to four-time national champion Miami (Fla.). The home opener is February 22nd against Xavier at 3:00 p.m. in Jim Patterson Stadium.
The Cardinals return 22 letterwinners, including 12 pitchers from a team that was 32-24 overall, and 15-14 in Conference USA last year.
Head Coach Lelo Prado, who is in his 11th season as head coach of the Cardinals has 289 wins, just 20 behind Dr. John Heldman Jr. who is the winningest coach in U of L history.
