
LaFountain and Whiting Honored By C-USA

HATTIESBURG, MS - University of Louisville senior J.T. LaFountain and junior Boomer Whiting were both named to the Conference USA Second Team on Tuesday. It marked the first time since 2002 that the Cardinals had multiple honorees on the conference teams.
LaFountain made the team as an infielder, hitting .332 during the regular season with 12 doubles, and a team best seven home runs and 47 RBI. LaFountain led the league with eight sacrifice flies. He currently ranks in the top ten in seven different career categories at U of L, placing fourth in games played(205), sixth in at bats(723), eighth in runs scored(161), a tie for first in hit by pitches (33), fifth in doubles(46), eighth in hits (226) and sixth in walks (107).
The fifth-year senior from Utica, New York, and son of U of L Athletic Hall of Famer and baseball All-American Jim LaFountain, was previously a 2003 C-USA All-Tournament selection.
Whiting, an outfielder from New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, led the team during the regular season with a .333 average and lead C-USA with 26 steals in 29 attempts, the fourth best single season in school history. He is tied for eighth with 32 career steals, and fifth on the all-time list, having been hit by 27 pitches.
Whiting also leads the team with 56 runs scored and has been plunked 14 times this season, tied for second in school history. He has nine doubles, four home runs and 31 RBI as the leadoff hitter in the U of L lineup. He has not committed an error in the outfield this season. He was named to the 2003 C-USA All-Freshman Team,
Tulane's Micah Owings was named Player of the Year, the Green Wave's Brad Emaus earned Freshman of the Year honors and Head Coach Rick Jones took home his third Keith LeClair Conference USA Coach of the Year award. TCU hurler Lance Broadway was pitcher of the year.
The Cardinals finished the season 32-22 with a 15-14 C-USA record, making them the number seven seed in the C-USA Tournament in Hattiesburg, Mississippi this week. Louisville opens the eight-team, double elimination tourney against number two seed TCU on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. ET. The two seed has not won a game in the tournament since 1999.
