The University of Louisville women's tennis team gained a national ranking by breaking into the No. 75 spot on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) after a strong showing last weekend that included a first-ever win over an ACC school in school history.
The Cardinals (7-2) won 5-2 over North Carolina State and had a five hour marathon match with No. 59 Marshall before falling 5-2 last weekend.
"We are extremely pleased to make it into the rankings," said U of L head coach Greg Davis. We had two great matches over the weekend and are deserving of this recognition. We beat an ACC school for the first time in school history."
The Cardinals were last ranked in January of 2003 in Davis' inaugural season as head coach.
"We are looking to move up higher in the rankings," said Davis and are pleased to be on the national stage."
