The No. 75-ranked University of Louisville women's tennis team defeated Arkansas-Little Rock 6-1 in the first match of two scheduled for Friday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals move to 9-3 with the win.
"It was a great start for us today," said U of L head coach Greg Davis, whose squad hosts West Virginia tonight at 7:30 p.m. "We have three very difficult opponents this weekend and to beat an experienced team like UALR 6-1 was what we were hoping for from the team."
The Cardinals started out by sweeping all three doubles matches to gain the doubles point. Suzanna Gracanin and Leslie Stewart handled Outi Jarvinen and Jenna Hirdle 8-1 at the No. 1 spot. Natalie Laszkowski and Kelly Taylor rolled 8-2 over Rosario Negrete and Katie Prokop. Louisville native Robyn White and her partner Ariana Marshall took the No. 3 match 8-3 over Katie Prokop and Laetitia Bourgeon.
The Cardinals swept all but one singles match.
