LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville baseball team received letters of intent from eight standout athletes, each of whom will enroll at U of L in August and will be eligible to play for the 2007 Cardinals.
"We are very excited about the guys we signed. They will have a chance to come in and fill the voids left not only by our seniors, but by a few juniors that may be lost to the MLB draft," said Head Coach Lelo Prado.
Included on the list are four pitchers and four position players, with five of the young men hailing from Kentucky and the remaining three calling Florida home.
"The combination of pitchers and position players gives us the necessary balance to win championships. We expect a lot of each player and they know how important their role will be in the future of Cardinal Baseball."
The Cardinals return 22 letterwinners, including 12 pitchers from a team that was 32-24 overall, and 15-14 in Conference USA last year.
Prado, who is in his 11th season as head coach of the Cardinals has 289 wins, just 20 behind Dr. John Heldman Jr. who is the winningest coach in U of L history.
Louisville will be competing in the BIG EAST conference next spring.
