ANN ARBOR, Mich. - - The University of Louisville doubles team of Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustafsson advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Midwest Regional where they fell to Illinois' Marc Spicijaric and Monte Tucker 8-3 Monday.
Clark and Gustafsson, No. 19 in the ITA preseason doubles rankings, defeated Indiana's Dmytro Istuganov and Neil Kenner 9-8 (5) in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinals of the 64-team doubles draw.
Louisville's doubles team of Damar Johnson and Slavko Radman, N. 60 in the ITA preseason rankings, fell to Ohio State's Scott Green and Dominic Ozanne 8-4 in another quarterfinal match.
"There are a lot of positives we can take out of this tournament," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "Having two of the final eight teams in the Midwest Regional Championships and having Jeremy Clark and Jakob Gustafsson make the semifinals marking the third time in school history we've had a doubles advance to the semifinals was very exciting. Our goal is always to win, but being among the final four teams at the Midwest Regional is impressive and a good way to close the fall season."
The Cards will open the spring season when they play host to Northwestern January 13 at 5 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
