
Men's Soccer Falls to No. 16 Coastal Carolina

Furman, S.C. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team fell 6-2 to No. 16 Coastal Carolina in the in Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational. Over the final 15 minutes Coastal Carolina put the game out of reach with three more goals to cruise and improve to 4-0-0 on the season. Louisville falls to 2-2-1.
"We started the game pretty well," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "We scored early and they responded and then went up 2-1. We made some adjustments in the first half and played pretty even, even though they outshot us. We got ourselves back in the game with a Jelani Grant free kick in the second half. The game balanced our for about 15-20 minutes, then they went ahead 3-2 and took it from there. They just got better and stronger.
"I will give Coastal Carolina credit, they are probably the best team I have seen play in the last five years. It was a very humbling experience for our team. We didn't respond when they turned it up another notch. It was a great experience for our team, we have a long way to go."
Sophomore Ryan Meyer put the Cardinals ahead just 2:20 into the match off of a corner kick from David Guzman, but Mubarike Chisoni found net 59 seconds later to even the match. After Jelani Grant scored on a free kick to tie the match at 2-2 in the 49th minute, the Chanticleer's Jordie Hughes responded with with a goal in the 70th minute to to push the Chanticleers out in front once again.
In Sunday's opening match, Coastal Carolina's Chisoni tallied three goals and an assist while Hughes contributed two goals and an assist to lead the Chanticleers.
