Furman, S.C. - Tyler Wilcox, making his first appearance in goal this season, recorded six saves and Furman goalkeeper Alex Maslow totaled four saves as the Paladins and Cardinals played to a scoreless at the Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational in front of a crowd of 1,302 at Stone Soccer Stadium Friday night.
"It was a great college game in front of a huge crowd," said head coach Tony Colavecchia."Both teams had a lot of chances and gave their all. We defended very well in the first half and Furman defended well in the second half. I thought in the overtime period we had all the best chances of the entire match.
"We probably were not very clinical in front of the goal, we squandered some chances. Jelani Grant, Matt Rose and Justin Pierre all missed from close range. We did create some chances and at times looked like a very good team. We definitely looked like a team that can play. We defended very well and it was a total defensive effort."
Furman(0-2-1) on the season, controlled possession through most of regulation outshooting the Cardinals 14-6. Louisville turned the momentum in overtime and outshot the Paladins 6-2. Furman held a 7-5 edge in corner kicks while the Cardinals (2-1-1) was whistled for 25 fouls and Furman 22.
The Diadora/Spinx Furman Invitational concludes Sunday when the Cardinals face 16th-ranked Coastal Carolina at 11:00 a.m.
