Louisville, Ky. - Matchups with Kentucky, Saint Louis, Indiana and the Conference USA Tournament in Cardinal Park highlight the University of Louisville men's soccer schedule released today by head coach Tony Colavecchia. The 19-game regular-season schedule includes eight games against teams that participated in the 2003 NCAA Championship, including the defending champions.
"Although we graduated some key players, it was important to have a schedule that would help us gain experience," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "With eight teams that participated in the NCAA Tournament, the schedule looks like it will be challenging. I feel that we have to raise the level of competition outside the conference. In addition we are hosting the Conference USA Tournament for the first time, and hopefully this will be an incentive for the players."
The Cardinals will open up the home season with an exhibition game against Akron on August 25. Louisville will then host the U of L Musselman Hotels Classic on Sept. 3-5. Then on Sept. 7 the Cards will host instate rival Kentucky at 7:00 p.m.
Louisville will then head to the road for a five game stretch. They will participate in the Furman Tournament on Sept. 10-12. The Cardinals will play host Furman on the 10th at 7:30 p.m. and then face NCAA participant Coastal Carolina on the 12th at Noon.
The Cards will then play in the UK Tournament on Sept. 17-19. They will play Winthrop on the 17th at 5:00 p.m. and then face Georgia Southern on the 19th at Noon. Louisville will then kick off conference play with a trip to Marquette on the 29th.
Louisville returns home to Cardinal Park on Oct. 3 to host NCAA participant Michigan at 3:30 p.m. Then a trip to Memphis on the 6th before returning home to face DePaul on the 9th. The Cards will travel to Ohio State to face the Buckeyes on Oct. 13th. Then Louisville returns home for a two-game stretch hosting conference champion Saint Louis on the 16th at 7:00 p.m. Then on the 20th the Cardinals will host Charlotte at 7:00 p.m.
The Cardinals will hit a three game road stretch that includes the 2003 National Champion Indiana Hoosiers. Then on Nov. 3 the Cardinals will wrap up the home season with a matchup against UAB at 7:00 p.m. Louisville will finish out the season on the road at South Florida on Nov. 6th.
