
Softball Sweeps DePaul Doubleheader 4-0 and 2-0

In the opening game, Louisville put two runs on the board in the second inning when Lisa Estes singled and moved to second on Courtney Moore's fielder's choice. A bunt by Candi Hicks loaded the bases and a wild pitch moved the runners, bringing Estes home. Moore scored on another wild pitch to make it a 2-0 game.
The Cards added two more runs in the fifth when Audrey Rendon led off with a single and stole second and moved to third when Nord followed with another hit. Nord stole second and Rendon came home on a sacrifice fly by Michelle Vasquez. A wild pitch sent Nord home for the 4-0 game.
Junior Aja Sherman (10-2) threw a one-hitter for her fourth straight conference shutout and sixth straight win. Offensively, the Cardinals had four runs on six hits and were led by Shannon Nord who went 2-for-3 with a run and a stolen base.
DePaul starter Sarah Martz (10-8) took the loss, giving up four runs, three earned and striking out two in six innings.
In the second game, the teams played through two scoreless innings before Louisville took a 1-0 in the third when Vasquez singled and scored on a double by Sara Bausher.
The Cards added an insurance run in the fifth when Rendon bunted for a hit, stole second and came home on an RBI single by Vasquez to make it a 2-0 game.
U of L starter Kady Garrick got the complete-game shutout win, allowing six hits and striking out two in seven innings. Offensively the Cardinals had nine hits and were led by Vasquez who finished 3-for-3 with and RBI and a run. Louisville improves to 31-10 (12-2 C-USA).
DePaul starter Tracie Adix (0-7) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on nine hits and striking out two in six innings. The Blue Demons were led offensively by Linda Secka who was 2-for-3 in the game. DePaul falls to 12-18 (7-4 C-USA).
"I'm very pleased with our pitching today because we held our own against a very good hitting team," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall. "Every conference game is important and we've always struggled against DePaul, so these wins were very big for us."
The teams will meet in the final game of the series Saturday, April 10 at 1:00 p.m. at Ulmer Stadium. The game will be televised live locally on WDRB Fox 41.
