LOUISVILLE, Ky. - - The University of Louisville softball team defeated visiting DePaul 4-0 to complete a Conference USA sweep Saturday at Ulmer Stadium. The win marks the first time the Cards have swept DePaul.
The teams played through three scoreless innings before Louisville put up a run in the bottom of the fourth. Lisa Estes single and came home when Courtney Moore reached on a three-base error.
The Cardinals added three insurance runs in the sixth when Sara Bausher and Lacy Wood delivered back-to-back singles. Kristi Rozelle entered the game to pinch-run for Wood. Moore sent a two-out pitch over the left field fence to make it a 4-0 game.
DePaul threatened to score in the top of the seventh when Kate Sheaks singled and moved to second in Dana Kenny's groundout. With two outs in the inning, Ashley Parker reached on an error to put runners on first and third. Louisville's Catherine Bishop got Sarah Martz to ground out to end the game.
Bishop (7-4) got the complete game shutout, allowing three hits and striking out three batters. Offensive, the Cardinals had seven hits in the game and were led by Audrey Rendon, who was 2-for-2. Moore was 1-for-3 with a run and three RBI.
Martz (10-9) took the loss for the Blue Demons, allowing four runs, three earned, on seven hits and striking out four in six innings. DePaul falls to 12-19-1 (7-5 C-USA).
"Catherine Bishop threw a great game, limiting a great-hitting team to only three hits," said U of L head coach Sandy Pearsall. "I am very happy with the way we came in and played all three games with a lot of intensity. I thought we were a little tight with our hitting today, but freshman Courtney Moore came through to give us a comfortable lead."
U of L (32-10, 13-2) will take a program-best 10 game winning streak to Houston for a conference series April 17-18.
