
White and Velotta Named to Men's Soccer Staff

Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer coach Tony Colavecchia announced the hiring of Ken White and Jonathon Velotta on Friday. White and Velotta will serve as assistant coaches, replacing Dale Helfrich and Jeremy Morales.
White joins the Louisville staff after serving as the director of the Greater Fort Myers Soccer Club in Florida. Prior to his stint with Fort Myers, White served in a similar position for the Southern Kentucky Soccer Club in Bowling Green, Ky. for three years.
White served seven seasons as a head coach in the United Soccer leagues. He was the head coach of the Colorado Springs Stampede from 1995-99 and the New Orleans Riverboat Gamblers from 1992-94. Prior to his stint with the USL he was the head men's soccer coach at Southern Colorado from 1989-91. White also spent four seasons as an assistant coach at South Florida and two seasons as an assistant at the University of Tampa.
White is currently serves as the NSCAA Regional Director for Kentucky, Ohio and Tennessee. While serving as regional director he is responsible for coordinating all coaching and education courses in the region. He is also a NSCAA National Youth Academy Staff Coach and also serves as an NSCAA National Staff Goalkeeper Coach.
White's main coaching responsibility will be with the Cardinal goalkeepers. White has extensive experience developing goalkeepers at the professional and collegiate level. He was a former goalkeeper at South Florida and guided the Bulls to two NCAA Tournament appearances.
"I have been associated with Ken White for over 20 years," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "His experience and knowledge of the game at the next level is a key factor towards the continued growth of the U of L program. He is a passionate teacher of the game."
Velotta is no stranger to the men's soccer staff. He was promoted to assistant coach after serving as a graduate assistant last season. The Owensboro, Ky. native was a four year starter at Brescia University. He played central midfielder and back, helping Brescia to three consecutive conference championships.
Velotta was a starter his senior season and earned first team All-KIAC honors. He also earned all-american honors his senior season and served as team captain.
While in Owensboro, he coached the '86 girls of Owensboro United Soccer Club for four years. He is currently a member of the Kentucky ODP staff for the last two seasons. Velotta has earned his USSF "B" License.
He will be responsible for assisting Colavecchia with all aspects of the program. He will also oversee the strength and condition of the student-athletes.
"Jonathon bridges the gap between the players and myself," said Colavecchia. "He understands the young student-athletes. He is one of the best young coaches in the country and we are happy he has joined the staff full-time."
