USF 4, MEMPHIS 0 LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Eighth-seeded USF swept ninth-seeded Memphis in the first round of the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship on Thursday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Bulls will now face second-seeded TCU, which earned a first-round bye, at 3 p.m. on Friday at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. Memphis will take on the winner of the UAB/Saint Louis match on Friday at 6 p.m.
USF dominated the match early, winning the doubles point. Gabriela Duch and Marie France Lord Andrade downed Memphis' duo of Viktoria Gruber and Marlene Dirnstofer, 8-4, at the No. 1 doubles spot. The Bulls' tandem of Fabiana Taverna and Luisa Obando also nabbed an 8-4 decision over Andrea Feichtinger and Yesica Ares, 8-4, at No. 2.
In singles action, USF's Duch posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Dirnstorfer, while Patricia Kolendo defeated Ares, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4. Obando also swept Christina Wieser, 6-1, 6-1 in the sixth spot.

CHARLOTTE 4, EAST CAROLINA 0 LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Seventh-seeded Charlotte swept No. 10 East Carolina, 4-0, in the first round of the C-USA Women's Tennis Championship on Thursday at Seneca Park. The 49ers will now take on No. 1 Tulane at noon on Friday. East Carolina will battle the winner of the Cincinnati/Southern Miss match on Friday at 6 p.m. in the consolation bracket.
Charlotte cruised to a 1-0 lead, after claiming the doubles point. Ali Piacente and Megan Bullins shut out the Pirates' team of Sara Boseman and Ashley Perkinson, 8-0, at the No. 3 doubles position. Kathy Robey and Ofra Friedman also nabbed an 8-6 victory over Gillie Bailey and Cristina Meilicke at No. 2.
In singles action, Piacente claimed another win for the 49ers, after downing Boseman, 6-2, 6-0, at the No. 5 spot. Charlotte clinched the match when Friedman swept Kirstin Buchanan, 6-3, 6-0.
Friday's action will begin at 9 a.m., with the beginning of the consolation matches. UAB faces Saint Louis at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center, while Cincinnati takes on Southern Miss at Seneca Park.
