Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's volleyball team finished the first week of spring competition with a perfect 5-0 record. The Cardinals competed at the Palos Court Tournament in Chicago among 18 teams. Highlighting the field were Wisconsin, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Saint Louis and Marquette. Louisville was the only team to go undefeated in the tournament.
"I was very happy with our ball control," said head coach Leonid Yelin. "After just one week of practice we did a good job of controlling the ball. The key to this weekend was probably our play at the net. We have been working being dominate at the net with our blocking and hitting. We did a great job at executing it in our play this weekend."
The Cardinals defeated Northern Illinois 2-0, Western Michigan 2-1, Tennessee 2-0, Butler 2-0 and finished out defeating Purdue 2-1. Every player contributed to the wins with consistent play. Sophomore Jennifer Craven set all five matches for the Cardinals.
Junior Bing Sun highlighted the defense with her best defensive match of her career. Sophomore Jennifer Hoffman and freshman Anastasia Yartseva highlighted the offense for the Cardinals. Both players really stepped up with their aggressive play at the net.
