LOUISVILLE, KY - Western Kentucky scored all eight runs in the final four innings, defeating the University of Louisville 8-1 in baseball Tuesday.
The Cards loaded the bases in the first, and Nick Haley scored on a wild pitch to give U of L a 1-0 lead.
U of L(11-9) held on to the lead until Western(13-11) struck for three runs in the sixth to go up 3-1. An RBI single by DH Matt Gunning and a two-run single by Marcus Ross did the damage.
The Toppers added to the lead in the seventh without the benefit of a hit when catcher Jordan Newton scored from third on a wild pitch to make it 4-1.
Western added four insurance runs in the ninth on three hits and two Cardinal errors.
Mike Tisdale (1-3) started for the Cards, allowing two runs on six hits in five plus innings of work in the loss, he struck out two.
Jon Harbridge replaced him with two on in the sixth and surrendered a run on three hits in an inning of work, striking out one.
Freshman Scott Jenkins hit a batter, allowing a run in a third of an inning of work, while Skylar Meade allowed four runs, three of which were earned on three hits in two plus innings.
Chase Cruse tossed the final two-thirds of an inning, allowing a hit and fanning two.
Western starter Daniel Faulkner (4-2) tossed seven innings in the win, while Michael Shope notched his third save of the season
Haley extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double in the second.
The Cards left 10 runners on base in the loss. Ron Braun and Ryan McKinnon each had two hits for the Cards.
U of L will host Cincinnati in C-USA action over the weekend in a three-game series beginning Friday at 3:00 p.m. ET at Cardinal Stadium. Admission is free.
