
Cardinal Nine Drops Opener

LOS ANGELES, CA - The University of Louisville Cardinals were blanked in their season opener 7-0 by USC on Friday in game two of the Public Storage Classic.
Freshman starter Ian Kennedy(1-0) tossed seven innings for the Trojans(2-3), allowing just two hits, while striking out 11 in the win.
The Trojans got on the board in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by catcher Baron Frost that plated DH Jeff Clement, who lead off the inning with a triple.
Joey Metropolis and Clement drove in runs on consecutive hits in the fifth, extending the lead to 3-0. An RBI single by Hector Estrella and a bases-loaded walk to Michael Moon plated two more runs in the sixth, and a two-run single by Estrella closed the books in the ninth.
Four of the Trojans runs scored with two out.
Cardinal starter Mike Tisdale (0-1) took the loss, tossing five innings, allowing three runs on 10 hits and a walk.
Sophomore Jon Harbridge tossed the final four innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on seven hits and three walks, while fanning two.
Sophomore Nick Haley reached on a bunt single in the first, and Mark Jurich doubled to the gap in right in the fourth for the Cardinal hits.
Louisville will face San Diego State at 11:00 p.m. PT Saturday in game three of the classic, and is scheduled to face Notre Dame on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. PT to close the road trip.
