
Softball Tops Radford 5-1

Raleigh, N.C. - - The University of Louisville softball team defeated Radford 5-1 on the first day of the North Carolina Triangle Classic.
The Cards jumped on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first when Shannon Nord led off the game with a walk, moved to third on a single by Candi Hicks. Lacy Wood's three-run homer gave Louisville a 3-0 lead to start the game.
Lisa Estes led off the second inning with a solo home run to increase the lead to 4-0.
After being held hitless for three innings, Radford got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth when Glynn Tolleson led off with a double and scored on a double by Amber Drexel to make it a 4-1 game.
Louisville added another run in the fifth when Sara Bausher led off with an infield single, moved to second on a wild pitch, took third when Wood grounded out and scored on a hit by Courtney Moore to give the Cards the 5-1 lead.
U of L starter Aja Sherman (1-1) picked up the win, allowing one run on three hits and striking out 11 in seven innings. Radford starter Breanna Felix (0-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on four hits in one innings.
Offensively, the Cards had nine hits in the contest. Wood was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, a run scored and three RBI. Nord was 2-for-4 with a run.
Louisville (2-3) will continue Friday's play with a 5:00 matchup against North Carolina State.
