This week, the Cardinals reach No. 17 in the AVCA/USA Today Poll. This year the Cardinals have been ranked as high as No. 16 in the AVCA/USA Today Poll which equals the highest-ever ranking the school has earned. The 1996 Cardinals, who reached the Sweet Sixteen ended the season at No. 16. Volleyball Magazine moved U of L up to a No. 14 ranking.
Credit for the Cardinals' strong showing belongs partially to fifth-year senior Sonja Percan, the outside hitter from Pula, Croatia. She became the all-time kill leader in U of L history after this weekend when she had 16 and 19 kills against DePaul and Marquette respectively to move her to 1572 career kills. She moves up to third in all-time total attacks with 3608 after having 48 and 24 over the weekend. Sonja hit 16-4-24 for .500 against DePaul and 19-6-48 for .271 against Marquette. She had her fourth and fifth double/double match of the season. She had a total of 33 digs and 3 aces. The Cardinals are undefeated when a player posts a double/double.
U of L is riding an eight-match winning streak going into this weekend's game with Cincinnati on Oct. 10. Last year, the Cardinals put together a streak of nine matches and a streak of seven.
