Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer tied Alabama A&M 1-1 on Friday evening in the first round of the Florida International Tournament. The Cards improve to 10-6-3 on the season and will wrap up the regular season against Philadelphia University tomorrow at 5:00 p.m.
"It was a good team performance in the second half," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "We were a little jaded after the Indiana loss and showed it in the first half. Simon Bird scored an unbelievable goal, taking everyone with him except the kitchen sink. We had more chances than we needed to win the game and had a lot of goals deflected and saved."
Senior forward Simon Bird put the Cards ahead when he dribbled through multiple defenders and blasted a shot in to score in the 61st minute of play. The Cardinal defense held the Bulldogs until the 84th minute when Mohammed Seid scored off a cross from Keston Lewis.
The Cards outshot the Bulldogs 7-2 in both overtime periods. Cardinal keeper Brad Sokolowski collected three saves on the period and Alabama A&M keeper Andrew Jjombwe had 13 saves on the evening. The Cardinals finished the game outshooting the Bulldogs 26-12.
