Miami, Fla. - The University of Louisville men's soccer defeated Philadelphia University 4-1 on Saturday evening in the second round of the Florida International Tournament. The Cardinals finish the tournament with a 1-0-1 record and finish out the regular season with an overall record of 11-6-3.
"It was a very convincing win for us tonight," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "We dominated the game from start to finish. We had a mental lapse midway through he first period but overall it was a terrific team performance.
"This tournament was great preparation for us going into the Conference USA Tournament. We have 10 days to prepare for the tournament and it will give us a chance to rest some people who are a little beat up at the moment."
Senior Simon Bird got the Cardinals on the board first in the 10th minute of play scoring off a through ball. The goal marked Bird's 12th goal of the season and moves him into third place on the all-time career goals list.
Bird then crossed the ball to Ian Quattrocchi to put the Cards up 2-0 in the 28th minute of play. Then Philadelphia's Paul Ordway slipped past the Cardinal defense to score 40 seconds later. Freshman Marco Terminesi scored in the 40th minute of play off a Quattrocchi corner kick.
Bird crossed the ball to freshman Jonathon Williams who crossed it to Clay Talley for the final goal of the evening in the 74th minute of play.
