IUPUI 2- LOUISVILLE CARDINALS 2
This game was really good test for the Cardinals. IUPUI one of the fastest rising Division 1 Soccer Programs in the country, and handed us a good game on a beautiful spring day in Bloomington.
The game saw U of L have most of the possession in the first half , but IUPUI proved to be a dangerous team. Matt Rose scored early in the second half from a long range shot that hit the top corner of the net from 30 yards out. It was his first collegiate goal and one to remember.
IUPUI stormed back and scored two quick goals that resulted from very sloppy defensive play. But it was the hard work of Justin Pierre that created the equalizer for Courtenay Commander who managed to scramble the ball into net.
INDIANA HOOSIERS - 1 LOUISVILLE CARDINALS - 0
The defense was not not as solid as it had been in the past couple of games so we decided to change things for the next game.
After a 20 minute break we lined up to take on Indiana University. The game was played at a frantic pace and it was the first time that I felt comfortable that we could play and possibly beat IU.
Both teams created chances but IU came the closest after All-American Pat Noonan had a near post header saved by the Cards' keeper David Gisler.
The second half saw a much more confident Louisville team. Adrian Cann and TJ Newberg were impressive and bolted down the Louisville defense with some solid defending.
Matthews , Tsartolias and Rose were tireless in midfield and played some good combination 'Football". Simon Bird the Cards' striker was kept quite thru some good IU defending.
However , Courtenay Commander was a constant threat. The IU goal appeared to warrant an offside call after a thru ball was played behind the Cards defense but the goal stood.
It was the only chance that seperated the teams .
Jeremy Morales played in the second half of the game and made one excellent save.
INJURIES - Brian Schoenbein missed the games due to a knee injury. Schoenbein will miss the remainder of the Spring . Nathan Stephens has also been ruled out for the Spring Season with a broken bone in his left foot.
