LOUISVILLE, KY -- Jeff Reavis, assistant coach at the University of Tampa, has been named assistant volleyball coach at the University of Louisville.
Reavis coached Tampa for a total of eight seasons as assistant for Chris Catanach and the 31-year-old is no stranger to NCAA post-season play. He was an assistant for the 1993 and '94 seasons at UT, both included NCAA Tourney appearances. In 1995 and 1999, Tampa finished as national runner-up and finished third in 1998 and fifth in both 1997 and 2000.
"Jeff is active on the club level, is an excellent player himself and will pick seamlessly right up where our other assistant left off," said Leonid Yelin, U of L head volleyball coach. "I am quite pleased with what he brings to the table."
Reavis served as assistant coach at Kansas State under head coach Jim Moore in 1995 when he helped guide that program to its first NCAA post season action.
Upon returning to Tampa in 1996, during Reavis' second tenure, the Spartans were national runners-up in 1996 and '99 and ranked No. 1 for six of 12 weeks during the 1997 season while compiling the best winning percentage in school history at 31-2 (.939). The Spartans advanced to the NCAA II national semifinals in 1998.
He began a successful coaching career at Northern Michigan, where he served as student assistant coach during the 1991 and '92 seasons.
While at Northern Michigan, the teams reached the NCAA Finals and in 1992 were national runners-up.
Prior to his coaching stint at Northern Michigan, he served in the United States Air Force where he earned the Meritorious Service Medal for distinguished service during Desert Storm.
Throughout his collegiate coaching career, he has been active on the club level. He was the head coach of Team USA Florida, the USA Youth Development Team that won the Colorado Cup. As head coach of the Tampa Bay Juniors U-18, he qualified for Junior Olympic Open Nationals seven times with a second place finish in 1996.
Reavis replaces long-time assistant, Rick Nold, who is now head coach at Jacksonville State in Alabama, a team set to join the Ohio Valley Conference in 2002.
The Cardinals, two-time NCAA Sweet Sixteen participants, return three starters from the squad that made the school's 11th NCAA appearance in 2002.
