ST. LOUIS, MO - Mike Tisdale struck out a career-high 13 batters in a complete-game effort, leading the Cards to a 6-1 win over Saint Louis in baseball action Friday. Tisdale allowed one run on seven hits and two walks in his fifth complete game of his career.
Louisville(14-4, 4-0) plated a run in the second on an RBI double by catcher Fernando Isa to take a 1-0 lead.
The Billikens(9-8, 1-3) evened the score on a solo home run by shortstop Joe Boyer in the third.
A pitcher's duel ensued into the sixth, when the Cards broke the tie, as Josh Bolen was plated from third on a wild pitch making it 2-1 U of L.
Isa singled home another run in the eighth to extend the lead to 3-1, and the Cards added three in the ninth to seal the victory.
Dave Williams Jr. and J.T. LaFountain induced back-to-back walks to lead off the ninth. Adam Haley, who was squaring to bunt the runners over, pulled the bat back and slashed a double down the left field line. Williams scored, and after left fielder Kurt Evans bobbled the ball in the corner, LaFountain also scored.
Mark Jurich was issued an intentional walk and Morgan Bojorquez followed with a single to score Haley.
Haley, Bojorquez and Isa each had a pair of hits, while Jurich singled three times, extending his hitting streak to 11 games. Isa has hit safely in nine straight.
Tisdale allowed just two runners to reach second outside of the home run by Boyer. He struck out at least one in each inning, including the side in order in the fourth and the final two of the game.
Zach Placzek, who started for the Billikens took the loss, tossing six frames and allowing two runs on four hits and three walks, he struck out eight.
The same two teams will meet Saturday at 2:00 p.m. ET for game two of the series. Audio broadcast of the game is available at www.uoflsports.com.
