Louisville, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's soccer team (8-10-2, 6-3-1) shutout DePaul (8-9-2, 4-6-0) 2-0 Saturday night in Cardinal Park. The win marks the Cards sixth straight and set a new record for most C-USA wins. The Cardinals also secured the third seed of the Conference USA Tournament, their highest conference finish ever.
"I thought it was a great team performance tonight," said head coach Tony Colavecchia. "We made some changes in the lineup and Bryan Wells really stepped up with the two assists. And Adrian Cann really showed his leadership tonight, returning to the field after his injury Wednesday night.
"I thought that we had really steady play from the backfield. I am just really proud of this team and the way the really stepped up to the plate. It was a nice way to go out for the seniors."
Sophomore Justin Pierre got the Cardinals on the board in the 20th minute of play. Wells put the ball in the box to Pierre who shot it to the right side of the net. The Cardinals finished the half with a 1-0 lead.
Just six minutes into the second half, junior Simon Bird headed the ball in off a cross from Wells to put the Cards up 2-0.
Freshman keeper Brad Sokolowski registered his fourth shutout of the season and collected three saves for the game. Blue Demon keeper Michael Timlin collected four saves for the game. Louisville outshot DePaul 16-6.
